WHAT IS SAFTEY
NETWORKS?
Safety Networks is a direct service response with preventative
and rehabilitative approaches to addressing youth violence in
Illinois. The program is designed to engage, cultivate and
mobilize youth to become agents of social change, to bring
healing to their communities.
SUMMIT INFORMATION
Targeted Youth: Open to the public Projected Age Range: 10-17 year olds Projected Attendance: 35-50 youth
A Youth Advisory Council consisting of youth from Safety
Networks’ affiliate groups serve as the core audience for the
summit. These 5 boys and girls will be responsible for
encouraging other youth in the audience to participate as much
and as often as possible. They can be used as volunteers in
activities, leaders in discussions, and/or assistant to the
speakers.
Rockford Safety Networks’ affiliates include the following
schools and community centers:
- Patriots’ Gateway Center (Core Facility)
- La Voz Latina Resource Center
- Kennedy Middle School’s Violence Enders Program
- Booker Washington Center
- Boy Scouts of America
ARRANGEMENT:
Patriots Gateway has a classroom settings as well as a board
room and three rooms are reserved. Two classrooms will house the
workshops and the board room will be used for the introduction
and commencement. The workshops will be in rotation.
Two 35 minute workshops (in rotation); Two speakers (10-15
minutes each); Interactive games and activities; gift
bags/T-shirts; Food, Music, survey.
TOPICS:
Bullying and School Violence/conflict Resolution Gang Violence
and peer Pressure/Consequences of Violence.
