When La Voz Latina initiated an
after school program for Spanish speaking youth twenty years
ago, Jim Flodin was one of the first supporters.
Four years ago, our youth
program began working with Patriots’ Gateway Community Center,
introducing Latino youth to the discipline and enjoyment of golf
through the “First Tee”. Last year 53 Latino youth
participated in this partnership. Our mission and methods fit
well with Patriots’ Gateway focus on giving people a chance to
experience the arts, sports and other modes of self expression
that feed the human spirit.
That is why La Voz Latina is
partnering with Patriots’ Gateway Center to offer activities for
youth and adults that will enrich their lives and decrease the
likelihood of unhealthy and risky behaviors. From youth dance
groups to sewing classes, from a space for moms with toddlers to
a cozy meeting spot for seniors, we have several projects in
the works that community members have requested. The principle
objectives of our partnership are to provide maximum
opportunities for community leadership building and integration
of volunteers. |
